The hijab controversy has gone out of proportion to an extend that many politicians and celebrities are sending off tweets giving their points of view. Highschool and colleges have been closed down in Karnataka on the orders of the CM. Some are saying they feel Congress is behind the controversy.
There is suppose to be a dress code to be followed in schools and colleges. But the fact that hijab and kesari adornment is raising issues, isn’t something that should have blown out of proportion only now.
According to Karnataka Revenue Min R Ashoka in a tweet, “government seems to be not in favor of either #Hijab or Kesari being worn by students. Students can wear whatever they want on the streets, but the dress code is compulsory in schools. We closed schools &colleges as a precautionary measure for students’ safety. Congress is behind this politics.”
Hitting out at the Congress, Karnataka Energy Minister Sunil Kumar said that if Congress comes to power, they are likely to make a law that asks Hindus to wear hijab. Malala has commented about Muslim women being marginalized. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has taken a dig on the whole thing saying women cannot be stopped from wearing what they want. ‘It is there said in the constitution. Leave them alone.’
The protests have seen some cases of violence where outsiders have been arrested by police in Karnataka and the waves of protests are reaching Delhi University as well. Men could be seen wearing saffron scarves supporting women for wearing the hijab. The Karnataka government passed a law last week that barred students from wearing clothes that “disturb equality, integrity and public order”. On Monday, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said students must adhere to the dress code mentioned in the order till the High Court takes up the case.
