High Court pulls Delhi Govt’s ears, says its entire system failed

On Tuesday, the Delhi High Court took a strict stand against the Delhi government for it mishandling the coronavirus crisis in the state. The HC said that the Aam Aadmi Party’s government’s entire system failed when it came to handling the oxygen cylinder crisis.

The Delhi government had earlier promised to take care of the needs of the people and also supply according to the need. However, the rising number of covid-19 cases suggest that certain problems such as black marketing have not been curbed in the area.

The bench included Justice Vipin Sanghi and Rekha Palli and the two senior lawyers emphasised that this was not the right time to become vultures during such a situation. “This is a mess that the state government has been unable to resolve.”

The bench also added that the government has the power to take action and act accordingly against those engaging in such practices. The high court also added in its statement that it had never asked the government to arrange for  a five star facility for the covid-19 patients.

It was in relation to the order that the city government gave to assign 100 rooms at the hotel Ashoka exclusively for judges and their families. The court asked the government to immediately withdraw the order.

“When did we ask for a 100-bed facility at a five-star hotel? We had only said if a judicial officer or a judge or their family is infected, they should get hospital admission.” It further added that the concern is for the officers in the lower courts who have to hold the court. The high court furiously added that the judiciary has already lost two officers and hinted that they can not lose anymore.

It blamed the government saying that why did it let the controversy take this turn. The court had never asked for any special privileges.
