Hidden Geopolitical Agendas of China’s Research Ship Near Sri Lanka

The mysterious Chinese ‘research’ ship has sparked alarm in India and the US. Let’s uncover the hidden geopolitical agendas and China’s evil intentions.

Another Chinese ‘research’ ship, the Shi Yan 6, is on its way to Sri Lanka for a 17-day research mission, causing concerns for India and the United States.

The ship conducts oceanography, marine geology, and marine ecology tests, but it also has geopolitical purposes.

China has used Sri Lankan ports for its surveillance ships, which worries India about potential spying on its strategic assets in the Indian Ocean Region.

The Shi Yan 6 is part of China’s 13th Five Year Plan for science and education infrastructure and was built in 2020. It embarked on its maiden voyage to the eastern Indian Ocean in 2022.

China’s frequent use of Sri Lankan ports for its ships raises concerns for India’s security. While these ships claim to be for scientific research, they often serve dual purposes.

India sees the Indian Ocean Region as its traditional sphere of influence and won’t tolerate challenges to its sovereignty and strategic interests.

The presence of Chinese ships near Sri Lanka also poses risks to Indian nuclear reactors like Kudankulam and Kalpakkam and ports such as Chennai and Thoothukudi.

Sri Lanka’s defense ministry approved the visit of the Chinese ship, but the foreign ministry has not yet commented publicly.

China dispatches its research and surveillance vessels to Sri Lanka regularly. For instance, in August, the Chinese warship HAI YANG 24 HAO visited Sri Lanka, and its arrival was delayed due to Indian concerns.

Last year, a Chinese ballistic missile and satellite tracking ship called ‘Yuan Wang 5’ also arrived in Hambantota amid Indian security concerns. This ship is considered dual-use and can potentially spy on Indian military activities in the area.

Sri Lanka has leased the Hambantota port to China for 99 years since 2017, and the Sri Lankan government has limited control over its administration.

No country in the world opposes China for its technology or naval vessels. But the problem is that behind every action China takes, there seems to be some hidden and geopolitical evil intentions.

The current Chinese government doesn’t pay much attention to the internal problems within their country or have significant responsibilities towards their citizens.

However, they constantly try to monitor other countries, so that if needed, they can identify weaknesses in that country and exploit their economy or territory. That’s why other nations like India and America should always remain vigilant when it comes to China.
