“Hi Nanna” is a heartwarming story that, despite its predictability, leaves a lasting emotional impact. It’s a film that celebrates relationships and love in their most sincere forms. For those who value emotional narratives, this film is a must-watch.
“Hi Nanna,” directed by the talented Shouryuv, is a Telugu film that blends romance and family drama, featuring a star-studded cast including Nani, Mrunal Thakur, and Kiara Khanna. With a runtime of 158 minutes, it’s a movie that tugs at your heartstrings while treading a familiar narrative path.
The film is set in the beautiful locale of Coonoor, adding a visual treat to the storytelling. Nani, as Viraj, an aspiring photographer, and Mrunal Thakur as Varsha, portray a couple who transcend economic disparities to find love. Their journey into parenthood with their daughter Mahi, played adorably by Baby Kiara, forms the crux of the story.
“Hi Nanna” shines brightest in its emotional depth. The film’s portrayal of relationships, especially the father-daughter bond, is poignant and touching. The climax scene in the hospital, where even the family dog Pluto receives a moment of narrative significance, highlights the director’s attention to emotional detailing.
However, the film does not escape predictability. The first half of the movie, while setting up the story, feels like a journey through familiar territory. The romance between Viraj and Varsha, though heartwarming, is laced with clichés.
Scenes like Viraj’s confrontation with Varsha’s mother, and his struggle to narrate a story to Mahi without her mother’s presence, though well-executed, don’t break new ground.
The second half, post-interval, adds weight to the narrative with a twist that recontextualizes earlier events. The emotional quotient escalates, with each scene vying to outdo the previous in its emotional impact. The soundtrack by Hesham Abdul Wahab beautifully complements these moments, enhancing the film’s emotive appeal.

Performance-wise, Nani delivers a commendable act, embodying Viraj’s character with simplicity and depth. Mrunal Thakur, as Yashna, brings grace and strength to her role, while Baby Kiara’s performance as Mahi is noteworthy.
The film’s aesthetic is bolstered by Sanu John Varghese’s cinematography, which adds a pristine quality to the visual storytelling. While the film may not break new ground in terms of narrative, its emotional depth and character development make it a worthwhile watch.
