The Indian Premier League 2022 is all set to hit the floor on March 26 and people cannot wait to get their entertainment hats back on top with the competitive side of cricket in the shortest format.

On February 25, the Board of Control for Cricket in India took some crucial decisions related to the IPL during the IPL Governing Council meeting. Many new things can be expected from this and on top of this list the introduction of two new teams–Lucknow Supergiant and Gujarat Titans.

This is the second time when the franchise is introducing two teams as earlier it has already experimented with Pune Warriors India and Kochi Tuskers Kerala. Not many were happy about the changes. The teams will be divided in two sides each consisting of five teams and a league format will be designed extending upto 70 matches.

The teams are divided into two virtual groups as per seeding system, which are considering the titles a team has won and number of finals they have played.

Group A has five-time champions Mumbai Indians along with  Kolkata Knight Riders (three titles) and Rajasthan Royals (one title), Delhi Capitals and the new entrant Lucknow Supergiants.

Group B consists of Chennai Super Kings, which has four titles in its kitty, along with Sunrisers Hyderabad, three-time finalists Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings and the debutant Gujarat Titans.

With this, Mumbai Indians will be playing against teams of its group and the same will happen with Chennai Super Kings. This essentially means that each team will be playing 14 fixtures each in the league stage out of which seven will be played at home while others will be at other places.

As per previously made announcement by BCCI, the tournament will start from March 26 and will continue till May 29 with a total of 70 matches. As far as a call on the venue of the play-offs is concerned, any decision is yet to be announced however, Ahmedabad is among the front-runners of it.
