HC slams Delhi govt of gross incompetence in handling COVID, warns of Centre taking charge; daily tally continues over 3 lakh in India

Delhi Government has blatantly been accusing Centre of not supporting the State while itself been not working in line in order to resolve ongoing Covid-19 crisis in Delhi. Delhi is witnessing nothing less than a catastrophic magnification of ongoing pandemic, and this time Delhi High Court is taking it up the sleeves for it. On Tuesday, Delhi HC slammed Delhi government led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of gross incompetence in handling the poor state of affairs in national capital leading to downhill situation of Covid-19. It accused Kejriwal government’s failure in controlling black marketing of oxygen cylinders and crucial medicines for Covid-19 patients leading to current dire situation. 

HC further threatened that if this continues, it would ask Centre to rake over. “Set your house in order. If you cannot manage it, we will ask the central government to takeover,” court told Delhi government. 

Past 24 hours recorded 3,23,144 daily new cases of Covid-19 taking total tally to 1,76,36,307. Maharashtra continued to be maximum contributor to this number with 48,700 cases, followed by Uttar Pradesh whose daily count was 33,351.

After days of diplomatic talks between India and its allies over current situation of Covid-19 in country and need of international support, first international aid reached India on Tuesday, Medical aid comprising of 95 oxygen concentrators and 100 ventilators was sent by United Kingdom to support India as it continues to fight off the catastrophic second wave of Covid-19. 

Supreme Court devised a national policy for Covid-19 management. The apex court said that its suo motu proceeding is not meant to oust hearings done by High Courts in matter, but just because the top court in country cannot be a “mute spectator” while the country is under duress in a national crisis. Supreme Court bench comprising Justices DY Chandrachud, L Nageswara Rao and S Ravindra Bhat, is hearing the suo motu case in relation to oxygen, medicines and vaccines against Covid-19. The bench said it would rather play a “complimentary role and help in issues they are not able to look into”. 

Apex Court also gave green flag to Vedanta Ltd for reopening of Sterlite Copper oxygen plant in Tamil Nadu. The permission was given citing the current need of oxygen in country.
