Hardik Patel Changes Sides Before Gujarat Elections To BJP

Another one has changed sides. Former Congress member Hardik Patel is all set to join the BJP soon. After he quit the Congress party, he is known to have also slammed Congress leadership and had taken strong exceptions at the derogatory and hateful remarks by the party leaders against “Hindus and Lord Ram”.

Now, he has changed sides and decided to move towards the Saffron party. Patel had taken to twitter and commented how Congress makes purposeful remarks which hurt the religious sentiments of others. “Today, a former Union minister and Gujarat Congress leader made a statement that dogs urinate on the bricks of Ram temple,” he remarked.

He is slated to join the BJP in the first week of June. In May, Patel resigned from the Congress party stating reasons that the party was really not interested Gujarat Congress leaders were least bothered to address real issues of the state but were more focussed on ensuring that the leaders who come from Delhi to Gujarat get “chicken sandwich” on time. He had also alleged that Gujarat Congress leaders tried to disrupt his political effort “sitting in the AC chambers”. Meanwhile, Gujarat Congress chief Jagdish Thakor has claimed that Patel decided to quit the party as he was afraid that he might have to go to jail in sedition cases registered against him. The Gujarat Assembly elections are slated to be held this year.

Patel’s change in fighting sides comes at a time when BJP is getting ready for another season of elections in Gujarat. The BJP has been in power in the state for over two decades. While 2015, Patel came into focus with leading of a violent agitation seeking quota for his Patidar community. He was then a strong critic of the BJP. In fact, the then BJP government in Gujarat had booked the firebrand leader in several cases, including on the charge of sedition.
