Harbhajan Singh apologizes after giving a tribute to Khalistani Militant

Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has issued an unconditional apology after he was put under the scanner for offering a tribute to a Khalistani militant leader. The off-spinner had shared a picture of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale on Monday as she paid homage to those who died during the BlueStar operation. 

This picture triggered quite a few who felt that Singh sharing a militant picture on his social media meant that the former cricketer is supporting violence. However, he quickly took care of the matter as he issued an apology saying that he just posted one of the WhatsApp forwards on the 37th anniversary of the 1984 operation but did not realise who was in the picture. 

The vetran said, “I just wish to clarify and apologise for an instagram post yesterday. It was a WhatsApp forward that I posted in a haste and without even realising the content used and what it signified and stood for.”

He added that he accepts that it was his mistake to post the content without checking twice and in no way subscribes to the views reflected through the picture he posted on social media. He then went on to unconditionally apologize to people who were hurt by his deed. “In fact any anti-national group against my people, I do not support and never will,” he added.

In 1984 there was a Khalistani outrage which saw the Army go ahead with a Bluestar operation that essentially required them to remove militants from the Golden Temple. The temple was occupied by such people of extreme mentality and among them was Bhindranwale, who was also killed while trying to escape the place. 

The cricketer concluded his apology by saying that he has always been there for the country for over 20 years and will never support any anti-India mindset ever.
