Hackers Attempt To Steal Data Of ChatGPT Users

Check Point Research (CPR) researchers found some cases where cybercriminals were misusing ChatGPT by writing malicious codes to steal data of ChatGPT users.

According to a recent investigation, hackers are using ChatGPT, an AI-driven platform that can respond to questions with human-like responses, to create malicious scripts that are used to steal data.

Researchers from Check Point Research (CPR) have identified a few instances where online criminals are abusing ChatGPT to create harmful code.

Researchers from Check Point claim that in order to carry out their fraudulent activities, fraudsters are developing “infostealers” and encrypting tools in darknet hacking communities.

“Cybercriminals are attracted to ChatGPT. Recently, there has been evidence that hackers are beginning to utilize it to create harmful malware.

Given that ChatGPT provides hackers with a solid starting point, it has the potential to speed up the process “said Sergey Shykevich, manager of Check Point’s Threat Intelligence Group.

According to the study, on December 29, a discussion titled “ChatGPT – Benefits of Malware” surfaced on a darknet hacker site. The thread’s author disclosed that he was attempting to reproduce malware strains using ChatGPT.

These posts appeared to be teaching less technically skilled cybercriminals how to utilize ChatGPT for nefarious reasons, with real examples they can instantly employ, the research said.

“While this individual could be a tech-oriented threat actor,” it was noted. A threat actor also published a Python script on December 21.

When a cybercriminal pointed out that the style of the code resembles OpenAI code, the hacker replied that OpenAI had given him a “good (helping) hand to execute the script with a good scope.”

Despite the fact that the tools we analyze are quite simple, Shykevich asserted that it won’t be long until more experienced threat actors improve the ways in which they employ AI-based tools.

Having created ChatGPT, OpenAI is attempting to raise money at a valuation of about USD 30 billion. Microsoft is also considering investing around $10 billion in ChatGPT.
