Government To Launch An After-Sales Service Website For Consumers

The government is planning to launch a dedicated website for after-sales service to help consumers for their cars, phones, home appliances & electronics.

The government is planning to launch a website about after-sales services for durables and gadgets. This is a step to encourage companies to provide quality service.

According to The Economic Times, manufacturers of consumer goods will be required to post an after-sales service statement on their website.

This declaration should include details like a time frame for service, location of service centers, and availability of spare parts.

As per the report, this is a step to encourage companies to provide quality service.

They will also need to upload manuals for self-repair on the portal. The portal will be managed by the Department of Consumer Affairs.

ET was told by an official that the sectors included mobile phones and tablets, agricultural equipment, and consumer durables.

According to the report, this is part of the government’s plan to create a comprehensive framework known as the ‘Right to Repair’ that will protect consumers’ rights to have their products repaired or serviced.

The framework was developed by a government-appointed committee that pointed out practices like planned obsolescence or the creation of monopolies in spare parts.

It also stressed the need for consumers to have the right to choose how products are fixed.

A multinational carmaker will need to announce how long it will continue to provide after-sales support in India if it launches a new model. It is expected that the website will be available within the next few weeks.

Indian customers will soon be able to access details about after-sales support for their phones, electronics, and home appliances online.

This portal was launched by the government to encourage companies to provide quality service.
