Government plans strict measures as over 70 flights receive fresh bomb threats

More than 70 flights from different Indian airlines received bomb threats on Thursday, according to PTI sources. Over a span of 11 days, nearly 250 flights operated by Indian carriers have been the target of these serious threats.

Civil aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu has announced the Indian government’s plans to introduce legislative measures to effectively address the series of bomb threats, including placing people responsible for such situations on a no-fly list.

On Thursday, IndiGo confirmed that 14 of its domestic and international flights received the alert, adding that the airline is abiding by standard operating procedures. Akasa Air spokesperson also noted that the airline is monitoring the situation.

Air India also informed that some of its flights became the target of security threats received on social media. Emphasising that the safety of its passengers, staff and aircraft remains its top priority, the airline said that all security procedures are being adhered to.

The Union Ministry of Electronics and IT recently blasted X as the platform is being used for the circulation of many of the bomb threats. Joint Secretary Sanket S Bhondve chaired a meeting attended by representatives of airlines and social media platforms.

Is there a conspiracy behind the bomb threats?

The security alerts have created panic among passengers and set off alarm bells for security agencies. These bomb threats circulating in recent days are not just affecting domestic flights. Even the international ones have been diverted.

Responding to a question on if there could be a conspiracy behind the barrage of bomb threats, K Rammohan Naidu said a thorough investigation is being done. He asked for patience as the pattern cannot be put out if the investigation isn’t complete.
