Google has introduced a new feature called ‘Photomoji’ in the Google Messages. This feature is a creative addition to the Google Messages app, and it’s something that will change the way we use emojis in our chats.
So, what exactly is Photomoji? Well, it’s a feature that lets you turn your own photos into emojis. Imagine being able to use a picture of your own face, your pet, or any object as an emoji in your chats. It adds a personal touch to your conversations, making them more fun and expressive.
This feature was first announced when Google Messages reached a milestone of 1 billion users. Along with Photomoji, Google introduced several other features, including enhanced voice recording and more customization options.
Now, how do you use this feature? It’s quite simple. If you have Google Messages as your default messaging app and you’re using RCS (Rich Communication Services), you’ll see a new option in the app.
When you’re typing a message, you’ll see an emoji button. If you press and hold on to a message, you’ll find a ‘Create’ option at the bottom of the reactions bar. Here, you can create your Photomoji.
You can make up to 30 custom emojis using your photos, and you can change or delete them anytime. These Photomojis will be saved in a special tab for easy access. You can use them in your reactions to messages, making your responses more personalized and fun.
However, right now, you can’t use these Photomojis in the middle of sentences like regular emojis, but who knows what future updates might bring?
It’s important to note that this feature is still in the beta testing phase. It means that it’s being tested out and isn’t available to everyone just yet. If you’re eager to try it, you can update your Google Messages app or join the beta program for early access.
This feature is quite similar to what we’ve seen on iOS, where users can turn images into stickers and use them across different platforms. Samsung also offers a feature where users can cut objects out of images, but they don’t turn them into stickers or emojis.

In addition to Photomoji, Google Messages has also introduced other new features like Voice Moods, which adds emotions to voice messages, and Screen Effects for pop-ups in specific words or sentences.
There are also options to customize conversation bubbles and backgrounds, and even animated emojis for more expressive chats.
