Google has made a big announcement for podcast listeners. On Google’s 25th birthday, the company announced that it is shutting down its Google Podcasts service. Google has decided to end this journey in just 6 years.
Google stated that it is going to shut down Google Podcasts and users can now listen to its podcasts on YouTube Music.
Google mentioned that 23% of weekly podcast users in the United States prefer to listen to podcasts through YouTube, while only 4% of users said they like Google Podcasts.
Google mentioned in a blog post that in 2024, it will invest more in YouTube Music to make sure that Google Podcast and YouTube Music fans and podcast listeners can enjoy this platform fully.
The company stated that YouTube is a platform that can reach every community with both audio and visuals.
Google said that it will replace Google Podcasts with YouTube Music in 2024, although they haven’t provided a specific date for this transition.
YouTube Music’s team has said that they will provide tools to Google Podcasts users so they can shift to YouTube Music. YouTube Music might allow users to add podcast RSS feeds to their library.
Google had previously promised that they would soon allow users to listen to podcasts offline.
They said, “All listeners can enjoy podcasts offline or in the background, cast while casting, and switch seamlessly between audio and video versions on YouTube Music.”
It’s worth noting that YouTube Music’s podcast feature has not been launched in India yet. Currently, it’s only available to users in the United States, Canada, and Latin America. However, Google had promised earlier this year that they plan to launch YouTube Music globally.
In 2023, Google shut down several features and products, including the album archive feature in July. Prior to this, Google had discontinued Play Music, Google Play Movies & TV, the cloud gaming service Stadia, and more.
In addition to these, Google has also discontinued products like Google Talk, Google Duo, Google Reader, Google Glass, Google Domains, and Google Plus in the past.

In the next year 2024, Google is preparing to shut down several of its products, including some home security products like Nest Secure.
Support for all Nest Secure products will end on April 8, 2024. Additionally, Google will also discontinue the HTML version of Gmail in January 2024.
