Google Celebrates Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s Birth Anniversary

Google tributed the Bharat-Ratna award winner, Indian singer, composer and filmmaker Dr Bhupen Hazarika on his 96th birthday with a special Doodle.

Google released a special Doodle on Thursday, September 8, 2022, to commemorate Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s 96th birthday, an accomplished Indian musician, composer, and director. 

On this day in 1926, Hazarika, a composer for countless motion pictures, was born in Assam.

Google tributed him & said,

“Happy birthday, Bhupen Hazarika! Your songs and films continue to command respect for Assam’s rich culture.”

His musical abilities caught the notice of famed Assamese lyricist Jyotiprasad Agarwala and director Bishnu Prasad Rabha, who were the pinnacles of Assam’s rich cultural past. 

As a child, Hazarika grew up inspired by songs and folktales about life along the great Brahmaputra river.

Initial Music Career of Dr Bhupen Hazarika

Hazarika’s debut song, which commenced his musical career at the age of 10, was recorded with the assistance of Agarwala and Rabha.

By the time she was 12 years old, Hazarika had already written and recorded songs for two Indramalati movies, Kaxote Kolosi Loi and Biswo Bijoyi Naujawan.

Qualification of Dr Bhupen Hazarika

Banaras Hindu University awarded Bhupen Hazarika a master’s degree in political science in 1946. Later, in 1952, he graduated with a Ph.D. in mass communication from Columbia University.

Dr. Hazarika came back to India after concluding his studies in America to continue creating songs and movies that popularized Assamese culture on a national and international level.

Dr Bhupen Hazarika Had Received Prominent Awards

Dr. Bhupen Hazarika received numerous honors for his extraordinary contributions to music and culture throughout the course of his six-decade career, including the –

  • Padma Shri Award
  • Padma Bhushan Award
  • Dadasaheb Phalke Award, and
  • Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.

He was also awarded India’s highest civilian honor late in 2019: the Bharat Ratna Award.
