Google Adds Translation Feature To Gmail Mobile App. Here’s How To Use It.

Google has introduced a new feature in its Gmail mobile app that allows users to translate messages in a variety of languages seamlessly.

This native translation integration has been highly requested and aims to enhance communication across languages.

To use this feature, users can select “Translate” on a banner that appears when the content language of a message is different from their Gmail display language. They can then choose their preferred language for translation.

This update brings the existing web-based translation feature to the Gmail mobile app for both Android and iOS users. It offers access to approximately 100 native languages, making it easier for users to read and understand conversations in different languages.

Users also have the option to customize the translation feature according to their preferences. They can choose to have Gmail automatically translate messages or never translate specific languages. This feature can be managed in the settings.

Google has been continuously adding new features to its Gmail app to improve user experience. Last month, it introduced a feature that allows users to schedule meetings directly through emails.

In June, Gmail on mobile devices received a feature that enhances search results to help users find specific emails or files more quickly.

Additionally, Google has rolled out the “Help me write” tool to Gmail users enrolled in the Workspace Labs program, which assists in composing emails on Android and iOS devices.

The translation feature started rolling out for Android users on August 8, and it will become available for iOS users in the coming weeks.

This update aims to make Gmail a more versatile and user-friendly communication tool, catering to a diverse user base with varying language preferences.

How To Use Translation Feature In Gmail App?

Google’s translation feature in the Gmail app is available for both, Android and iOS users. The feature automatically detects if the content language of a message is different from the user’s account settings.
It automatically detects the language and displays a dismissible banner for translation. You can select “Translate” on the banner and choose your preferred language.

The translation option will reappear if it is dismissed, and you can turn off automatic translation for a specific language in the settings menu.

The feature is available to all Google Workspace customers as well as users with personal Google Accounts. However Android users already have access and iOS users getting it on the 21st of August.
