Don’t worry if you missed it, here are the key highlights of the 37th National Games, especially focusing on badminton, basketball, and netball. The National Games have been a buzzing arena for sports talents, and this year’s games in Goa were no different. The 36th National Games was held in September last year.
M Tharun and Anupama Upadhayaya won the men’s and women’s singles badminton gold. Karnataka bagged both the men’s and women’s doubles titles in badminton.
The mixed doubles badminton gold went to Gouse Shaikh and D Pooja from Andhra Pradesh. In men’s basketball, Services and Tamil Nadu advanced to the 5×5 semifinals from Pool B.
Let’s start with badminton, M Tharun from Telangana and Anupama Upadhayaya from Haryana are the new champions in men’s and women’s singles respectively.
Tharun had a challenging match against Sourabh Varma but emerged victorious with scores of 21-15, 16-21, and 21-15. Anupama defeated Aditi Bhatt from Uttarakhand in straight sets 21-13 and 21-18.
Tharun played aggressively, making big smashes and keeping the pressure on, while Anupama displayed her skills as a national champion.
Moving on to doubles, Karnataka clinched both the men’s and women’s titles. The women’s team of Shikha Gautam and Ashwini Bhat defeated Ritika Thaker and Simran Singhi from Maharashtra.
In men’s doubles, HV Sunil and K Pruthvi Roy pulled off a surprise win against top seeds from Tamil Nadu. This double win for Karnataka is indeed a moment of pride for the state.
Andhra Pradesh’s Gouse Shaikh and D Pooja won the mixed doubles gold by defeating top seeds Navaneeth Bokka and K Maneesha, making it a memorable win for their state.

In the arena of basketball, the men’s teams from Services and Tamil Nadu have moved to the semifinals from Pool B.
