Germany Increases Visa Quota for Indian Skilled Workers by 3.5 Times to 90,000

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Germany has increased the annual visa limit for Indians by 90,000 from earlier 20,000 for professionals. They made the announcement in the 18th Asia-Pacific Conference on German Business 2024 in Delhi while German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz was on an official visit to India with a three day’s trade stay. This rise, which is a multiplier of 3.5 indicates that the Germany market is looking for more skilled Workers from India to enhance business cooperation.

The partnership between the United States and its partner countries has been defined as the goal of enhancing diplomatic relations.

The announcement was made when Chancellor Scholz visited India for the third time after becoming Chancellor in 2021. The recent increase in the quota for visas also show Germany’s interest in enhancing the economic relations with India as the Germany, Europe’s largest economy is in need of qualified employees and talent from India can fulfill this need.

The two leaders had face-to-face consultations in the official Prime Minister’s residence to discuss in detail different facets of the bilateral relations. The step is believed to lead to increased employment prospects for Indian professionals in Germany at the same time as providing an impetus to German economy through organized human capital sourcing.

Security and Maritime Domain Awareness

On the visit’s agenda is the 7th Intergovernmental Consultation during which both parties will discuss deepening security and defense cooperation, talent exchange, and growing bilateral trade. These discussions reflect the important shift to the further enhancement of the strategic cooperation between India and Germany.

In Germany’s Indo-Pacific deployment, Scholz will go to Goa to receive two German naval ships which include the Baden Württemberg frigate and the Frankfurt Main support ship. Such naval presence indicates Germany’s interest in a successful maritime cooperation within the backdrop of the Indo-Pacific region.
