Gautam Gambhir slammed Dinesh Karthik for handing over the captaincy mid season

Former cricketer and Indian politician Gautam Gambhir slammed Dinesh Karthik and the management of Kolkata Knight Riders to change the captaincy mid-season.

It all happened after the Shahrukh Khan backed team was playing against Chennai Super Kings, who were on the verge of being officially declared out of the season. MS Dhoni led team has not been performing well in this year’s India Premier league and losing from a team which at the bottom of the table, did not go well with the fans.

This led people to raise questions on team management’s decision of changing the captaincy mid season and giving it to Eoin Morgan when Karthk was doing a fine job. Gautam Gambhir also became a part of the people who raised these questions.

He said, “It just shows the mindset. You left captaincy because you wanted to concentrate on batting, but then it hasn’t worked, so probably sometimes it’s good when you take up responsibilities. What I’ve realised when I was through a worse phase in 2014. I got three ducks in a row when we started the tournament. It was captaincy that helped me that I could get back into form,” as he spoke to the cricinfo.

Gambhir while explaining the matter, talked about his own journey while captaining the Kolkata Knight Riders. He shared his experience and said that even he was going through a rough phase but he overcame it by focusing on how to unite the team when not doing well with the bat.

“When I was not batting, I was thinking about how to make the team win through my captaincy and the decision making. But when you’re not captaining, you’re thinking even more about your batting”

Nevertheless, chances of KKR not qualifying for the playoffs has not been eliminated as yet. The result to qualify or not actually depends on a few other results and stats but what will not be working in their favour is a negative run rate of  0.467. The team from Kolkata keeps on struggling to make a suitable arrangement for the team as nothing seems to be working for the current squad. With Karthik in place, the team was doing a better job on the field but Morgan is suffering to adjust with the sudden role given to him. The team will be playing with Rajasthan Royal on Sunday and it might break or make the team’s chances of reaching the playoffs.
