Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina Meets Gandhi Family Post Modi’s Swearing-In

Bangladeshi PM Sheikh Hasina was in India to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for term 3. After the ceremony today Bangladeshi PM met with Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, his son Rahul Gandhi and daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Sheikh Hasina’s relationship with the Gandhi family is linked to the relationship of her parents. His father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had friendly relations with Indira Gandhi the former Prime Minister of India.

Let us remind you Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the founder of Bangladesh. During the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, Indira Gandhi supported the independence of Bangladesh from Pakistan. This support created a lasting bond of gratitude and respect between the two families.

Sheikh Hasina reached India on Saturday on this visit to India, apart from her many other neighboring leaders from different countries also came to India to mark their presence in the PM oath ceremony. The list included President Mohammad Muizzu the president of Maldives, Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, and Sri Lanka’s President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

After the oath ceremony, President Draupadi Murmu hosted a banquet for the foreign leaders at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.

A statement came from the FM of Bangladesh Mr. Muhammad Hasan Mahmud. He said the Bangladeshi PM is willing to work with the new Indian Government to strengthen ties and relations.

FM of Bangladesh Mr. Muhammad Hasan Mahmud  said “…PM Sheikh Hasina attended the oath-taking ceremony (of PM Modi and the council of ministers) and after that, she had a one-to-one meeting with PM Narendra Modi, where she again congratulated him and the NDA for winning the elections. She expresses her willingness to work with the new government in future to strengthen the ties.”

After the ceremony, Sheikh Hasina invited PM Modi on a visit to Bangladesh.
