The freedom fighters of India fought with their lives selflessly to bring independence to the country and a better life for future generations. We have compiled here a list of top 10 freedom fighters from state of Karnataka who took on a big role against British rule.
It is to be noted that at time of independence, year 1947, there was no Karnataka as today but it was divided into 20 different administrative blocks and kingdoms

The first female activist for the independence of India, Chennamma was a great inspiration to many women who stood strong against the British empire. Born in Belgaum, she was the Queen of Kittur princely state.
He led the army of Kittur kingdom under the Queen Rani Chennamma and fought the British East India Company in 1824.
The lady of Hubli district, Umabai was instrumental in organizing large groups of volunteers and encouraged women to step out and fight for India’s independence. Jallianwalla Bagh massacre changed her life route after which she joined the freedom movement actively.
Active part of the India’s Independence Movement, Karnad along with his wife Shantabai founded Mahila Sabha to help widows and poor women.
Also known as Mysore Tiger, Tipu Sultan was the ruler of Mysore Kingdom. He fought many battels against the Britishers.
She is known for bravely fighting when army attacked her Chitradurga empire.
Dr. Hardikar was closely associated with Lala Lajpatrai. He played an active role in the freedom fight as well as ignited the sentiments among people through lectures and selling books.
