Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan Arrested By Military

Imran Khan’s plea will take place at Pakistan’s Police Headquarters in Islamabad. His party called for a gathering after his arrest by the military.

Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, is scheduled to make an appearance in a special court to confront corruption allegations after his detention. The arrest triggered widespread protests throughout the nation. 

Following Khan’s accusation against a senior military officer of planning to kill him, the powerful military issued a rebuke, and subsequently, Khan was arrested. 

Military installations and monuments were targeted by protesters expressing their anger. The following day saw a decrease in tensions, however, the capital city still had a notable security presence and schools remained closed. Additionally, access to social media platforms was limited.

According to Pakistan’s top anti-corruption body, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), charges have been filed against Khan for allegedly disregarding court summons on multiple occasions. 

Khan faces the possibility of being disqualified from running for public office if found guilty. 

The strained relationship between Khan and the military became apparent when the armed forces publicly criticized him, ultimately leading to his removal from office through a parliamentary vote of no confidence.

The concern of Khan is being viewed as a signal from the military hierarchy that they have abandoned any efforts to reconcile with him. 

The United States has emphasized the significance of the rule of law and peaceful democracy in Pakistan, following a swift reaction from abroad. 

Khan was harshly brought into prison by paramilitary rangers during his detention, which happened during a regular court hearing. 

Following a plot to murder him last year, the former prime minister has become more vocal in his criticism of the establishment. He has been relying on his loyal supporters to protect him from arrest.

At a time when Pakistan is grappling with notable economic and political hurdles, Prime Minister Khan is advocating for early elections. This latest development has emerged. 

The nation is currently facing a persistent power struggle between civilian administrations and the military, which has a track record of carrying out coups and exerting unwarranted control.
