FIFA Fines ₹90 Lakhs On 3 Countries For Breaking Rules In Qatar World Cup

FIFA has fined a total of 100,000 Swiss Francs (₹90 lakhs) on Croatia, Serbia and Saudi Arabia as they’d broken rules during the Qatar World Cup Matches.

FIFA have fined three nations participating in the World Cup after conducting investigations regarding disciplinary breaches during the tournament.

The penalties of Croatia, Serbia and Saudi Arabia amount to an amount that is 100 000 Swiss Francs (CHF roughly PS87,200) and the decision was announced in a press release on Wednesday.

Quarter-finalists Croatia were penalized with the highest sum, CHF 50,000, after their supporters verbally insulted Canada goalkeeper Milan Borjan and unfurled a banner directed at him during the group stage of their match on the 27th of November.

Borjan, 35, who is born in the ethnic Serbian region in Croatia and his family fled to in 1995 when it was taken in by Croatian forces. 

Locally, it is believed there is a claim that ethnic Serbs fled in tractors with Croatia supporters displaying the banner of the John Deere tractor, and altering the slogan into mock Borjan.

The Croatian Football Federation has been punished CHF 50k for violations in violation of section 16 of FIFA Disciplinary Code (use of objects and words to convey an unintentional message suitable for an event in sports) with regard to the conduct in the behavior of Croatian fans during Croatia match against. Canada FIFA World Cup match on the 27th of November.

The Serbian FA has been handed an amount of 20.000 Swiss Francs in exchange for the flag placed in their locker room prior to their match against Brazil on the 24th of November.

The flag portrayed Kosovo as a part of Serbia as well as the message “we don’t surrender” The flag was accompanied by an image of it becoming viral on social media after it was shared on behalf of Hajrullah Ceku Kosovo’s Minister for Culture, Youth and Sport.

The Football Association of Serbia has been punished with CHF 20 000 for violations in accordance with Article 11 in the FIFA Disciplinary Code and article 4 of the Regulations for the FIFA World Cup 2022 in regard to a flag which was displayed in the club’s dressing room during the celebrations of the Brazil match. Serbia FIFA World Cup match on November 24.

Saudi Arabia are the third country to be fined due to the behavior of their players during two of their group stage games.

Herve Renard’s team picked up six cautions during both his teams’ Argentina and Mexico matches, and FIFA punished the team CHF 15,000 each for each of them.

The Saudi Arabian Football Association has been fined two times of CHF 15,000 due to the conduct of its players (a number of tickets that were handed out to Saudi athletes) throughout the FIFA World Cup matches against Argentina and Mexico on November 22 and 30 November, respectively.
