FIDE Chess Olympiad has made people keen on streaming online chess tournaments, says Vidit Gujrathi

The FIDE Online Chess Olympiad that was held recently in August, brought a big relief to the situation of sports during the pandemic strict protocols. Vidit Gujrathi an Indian chess player, who is the third highest rated player in India, stated that he was very excited to captain the India team in the Olympiad, which comprised of renowned players like Koneru Humpy and Vishwanathan Anand. India was held a joint winner with Russia and won gold.

When India was battling to find a way to restore sports amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the possibility of the online streaming of Chess sport arrived as a big break for the chess players, and they welcomed the online platform.

GM Hikaru Nakamura was the first chess player to be marked by a professional Esports Online Association. Olympiad is an extraordinary breakthrough for chess players during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Gujrathi stated in ‘In the Spotlight’ show that this was a very splendid moment for him when he won gold for the Indian chess team. Due to the Olympiad now Chess game could likewise be a spectator sport. In India, Chess was not a game that individuals liked to stream and watch. However, after the FIDE Olympiad, people are gradually getting keen on watching online chess tournaments.

Chess game can successfully mould in online platform also. The Chess Esports in the pandemic would bring more viewership, monetary benefits, and prominence to the players and the game too. Gujrathi also hinted that this could be the future for Chess lovers that they could explore.

Gujrathi also shared a remarkable moment when he defeated Anand in Chess for the first time in 2019. It was a truly happy moment in my life as I played against someone whom I looked up to in Chess, he expressed.
