History & Significance of Father’s Day 2022

The origins of Father’s Day can be traced back to Sonora Smart, the daughter of American Civil War hero William Jackson Smart.

Sonora’s mother, who resided in Spokane, Washington, passed away while giving birth to her 6th child. Together with her father, Sonora reared her younger brothers.

As she was hearing a speech in a church on Mother’s Day, which had recently been observed, she had the feeling that fathers deserved to be honored.
