Sreesanth announced retirement from domestic cricket on Wednesday but stressed that he is open to playing international tournaments and also available for coaching profile in coming days.
The 39-year-old fast bowler said that he feels that he made the ‘right and honorable’ decision. He also said that even though the decision does not bring him happiness, it does not make him regret the call as well.
The bowler, who hails from Kerala, added that the retirement is from all forms of domestic cricket and not just one. He, later on, highlighted that if any opportunity strikes with regards to playing franchise-based leagues across the world, he is open to playing it.
Sreesanth also added that he will only be able to play overseas cricket if and only the Board of Control for Cricket of India permits him. He further stated that his retirement from domestic cricket will pave the way for youngsters in the Kerala domestic set-up.
The celebrated yet controversial fast bowler has played 27 Tests, 53 ODIs and 10 T20Is for India in his six years of bowling career from 2005 and 2011. One of his most memorable innings was 2007 T20 World Cup where Team India lifted the trophy under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He was involved in a spot-fixing scandal in IPL 2013 post which a ban was imposed on him and it only ended in 2020 with a reduced life ban structure. The bowler has recorded 169 wickets in international cricket and has also been part of several exemplary wins recorded by Team India especially in T20 and the 50-over World Cup.
