Farmers protest against Centre’s decision of delay in paddy procurement, Haryana CM leaves for Delhi for solution

Haryana -Chief Minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar and Agriculture Minister JP Dalal has left for New Delhi with aim of meeting Union Ministers to seek a deadlock solution. This came after the farmers gathered outside the residences of MLAs and MPs of Haryana on Saturday morning protesting against the Centre’s decision of delaying paddy procurement. Chief Minister Khattar said, “Farmers will not have to face any problem in the paddy procurement.”

Protesting farmers have put up tents outside the residence of the Chief Minister in Karnal, as well as outside Sirsa MP Sunita Duggal’s residence in Sirsa, Kurukshetra MLA Subhash Sudha’s residence along with other MLAs and MPs across the state. CM Khattar’s residence has been under security by paramilitary forces. Roads leading to the house too have been locked down by Haryana Police. A senior police officer said, “Peaceful protest is the right of people but if they indulge in any sort of violence or block the highways or main roads, legal action shall be taken. We are closely monitoring the entire situation.”

The government must immediately begin the process to avoid any further losses to the farmers. In case the government fails to begin procurement immediately, they should brace for a massive agitation.”

BKU’s Haryana leader Jagdeep Singh Aulakh said earlier in the day, “Around 5,000-6,000 farmers will reach Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s residence in Karnal since he too represents the Karnal assembly constituency. Similar protests will be held across all constituencies of Haryana. We will park our tractor-trolleys filled with paddy crops outside the residences of MLAs and MPs.”

On Thursday, the Government of India announced delaying of paddy procurement in Haryana and Punjab due to delayed monsoon till October 11, triggering farmers protests.
