Thursday evening many television networks showed exit polls results. Dead heat race in West Bengal showed Trinamool Congress (TMC) leading, with little advantage to BJP by certain pollsters. In Kerala, all polls have predicted CPI (M) leading, almost sealing extension of its four decade trend in power.
Tamil Nadu is sealing a sweeping win for DMK-Congress Left alliance in some polls. Some polls are also predicting complete defeat of AIADMK, the ruling party in Tamil Nadu. It is to be noted that 2021 Assembly election were the first one in which AIADMK went without lead by iconic leader late J Jayalalithaa. If results go as predicted in polls, DMK alliance would come into power after almost a decade, under leadership of M K Stalin.
Pollsters have predicted, in Assam ruling BJP will have advantage over opposition alliance of Congress-AIUDF. In 2016, BJP had come to power in Assam for first time after defeating Congress.
Kerala might be a big setback for Congress as party is set to lose the state. Kerala has traditionally been shuffling between Congress-led UDF and CPM-led LDF every five years.
BJP’s projected win in Assam is a huge achievement. But West Bengal is showing a tight rope walk for BJP with some pollsters showing TMC in lead while others are giving advantage to BJP. The fact that West Bengal was a flaming state for BJP and party had high voltage campaigns, standing against ‘Didi’ Mamata Banerjee, current Chief Minister, the results would be anxiously awaited by BJP. Republic-CNX, India News Jan Ki Baat and India TV People’s Pulse – showed the BJP ahead of the Trinamool Congress.
Polls by Times Now C Voter, ABP News C Voter, News 24-Today’s Chanakya, India Ahead ETG Research and P Marq gave the Trinamool Congress an advantage. The News 24-Today’s Chanakya survey gave the TMC 180 seats. The India Today-Axis My India poll gave the TMC 130-156 seats and the BJP 134-160 seats, reflecting the close contest. In 2016 elections, the TMC had won 211 out of the 294 seats. With two seats countermanded because of the death of candidates, counting will be on 292 seats in West Bengal.
