Exercise Drug: Can This ‘Pill’ Strengthen Your Muscles Without Exercises?

A team of some Japanese scientists claimed that they have developed a ‘pill’ which can strengthen your muscles without exercise. They named it ‘Exercise drug’.

Japanese scientists assert that they have created a pill that can simulate the health benefits of exercise without the need for users to engage in physical exercise.

The medicine may benefit people’s muscles and bones just as much as exercise, according to researchers at the Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU).

They claim to have successfully reproduced a substance that generates calcium and stimulates the growth of muscle cells. Adults often naturally develop and improve their muscles through exercise.

While it’s true that many adults can choose to engage in physical activity with strength training to maintain their bone density and build muscle, certain people who are elderly or confined to beds for any other reason cannot benefit from these activities.

Therefore, a medication like this can be used to overcome “locomotor frailty” in those who are unable to exercise.

The study, which was written up in the journal Bone Research, claims that the “exercise drug” can alleviate sedentary people’s weakness in their bones’ and muscles’ ability to move.

The molecule aminoindazole derivative locamidazole, also known as LAMZ, was found by the TMDU researchers to enhance tissue.

They reproduced the medication, tested it on animals, and now they are optimistic that it may encourage bone production in elderly people.

LAMZ was shown to be capable of “suppressing the formation of bone-resorbing cells, osteoclasts,” in addition to producing bone cells called osteoblasts.

The scientists were pleasantly surprised to learn that the mice showed no negative side effects.

Takehito Ono, the lead author, said, “We discovered that LAMZ-treated mice demonstrated larger muscle fiber width, greater maximum muscular strength, a higher rate of bone formation, and reduced bone resorption activity.”

The authors cautioned that prolonged periods of inactivity can result in osteoporosis, a major deterioration of the bones, and sarcopenia, a serious weakening of the muscles.
