Ekta Kapoor launches a new show ‘Lock Up’, Kangana Ranaut steps in as host

Kangana Ranaut to step into hosting as she has been announced for the role for Ekta Kapoor’s new venture into a reality show–Lock Upp.

As promised on her social media, Ekta Kapoor announced big new news for her fans when on Thursday she launched a new reality show Lock Upp, which will stream on both Alt Balaji and MX Player.

Like most of her other shows, Kapoor promises that this show will be full of truth and controversies. The format of the show deals with the contestants being locked up in jail and the host will only be given the power to release them.

Not much was revealed by Ranaut or Kapoor during the announcement, the show surely was welcomed with a grand event in Mumbai. The details that Ekta gave about the show only revealed that there will be 16 contestants in the show and Kangana will be the one deciding their fate on the show.

“This is Kangana’s lock-up. She will be in charge here. She has had a lot of FIRs coming her way. Now she can issue some. She will be vetting the contestants and finalizing them,” said the director, producer during the announcement.

Before people could jump to any conclusion, Ekta clarified that the concept of the show was not taken from the west and it is an original idea. She also took a dig at Bigg Boss saying that living in India, we started to follow shows of the West and forgot what we can do. For the uninitiated, Bigg Boss runs on a similar format where contestants are locked up inside the house for months and have to fight for their survival. The show is inspired by Big Brother.
