While loosing the jobs may have a devastating effect on a person’s life, as it would directly affect the financial stability and career aspirations along with a lot of areas in personal life. Researchers have looked at how employment can affect job seekers in both short and long term.

Effects of Employment

Studies show that millions of workers who are unemployed goes through a lot of personal impacts and challenges during an already difficult time period. Some of the common issues that a person going through unemployment are discussed below.

Difficulty in finding a new job

According to surveys, people don’t get good responses if they say they are not employed. 77% of people looking for work said it’s easier to find a job if you are already employed. Employers often prefer applicants who take time to answer their offer rather than who are ready to work from the next day.

Limited Negotiation Power

Some candidates looking to increase their pay or advance their career may have more reasons to negotiate rather than who is looking for a job to get into and gain work experience. The experienced personnel might even offer a counter offer and explain with reasons why he or she is suited for the position better. But an individual who is looking for a job after not being employed for quite a time or is a fresher, they do not have the advantage of negotiating with the hiring managers.

Employment Gaps

One factor that hiring managers look into during choosing resumes for interviews is employment gaps. A noticeable gap in a resume can send a bad signal to employers and they might reject the candidate from their potential list. If someone has a gap in their CVs then he or she must explain it properly and take it up so that employers take it favourably.

Physical Health Issues

Researchers say that unemployment can lead to physical health issues. According to data, people aged 27 to 49 who experience long periods of unemployment had poorer health by the age of 50 than those who have been employed consistently.

Mental Health Issues

People unemployed for more than a year are at a much greater risk of having depression, anxiety and stress. They can also be admitted to mental health hospitals if the unemployment related issues persist leading to anxiety attacks and more such complexities.
