Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren is facing serious trouble as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has asked him to appear for questioning on August 24 in a money laundering case linked to a land scam worth 1200 crore rupees.
Earlier, he had avoided investigation, claiming he didn’t know about the case. He was also questioned last year in an illegal mining case.
In this new land grabbing case, 13 people, including a government officer, have been arrested by the ED. They used sneaky tactics like using old documents from 1932 to take over people’s lands.
They lied to the victims, saying their lands were already sold by their ancestors. Even lands given to the army were grabbed and sold deceitfully. Fake documents were found, with fake district names and old PIN codes.
The Chief Minister’s representative, Pankaj Mishra, got in trouble when the ED found a checkbook linked to Hemant Soren’s bank account at his home. Mishra has been arrested too. Interestingly, the case doesn’t just affect Jharkhand, but it has connections to Bihar and Kolkata as well.
Hemant Soren had been asked to join the investigation earlier on August 14 but didn’t show up. He asked for more time. His response to the new summons is still uncertain.
This case is adding to his problems, as he’s also accused of destabilizing a democratically elected government in the past. The ED seems determined to get to the bottom of these allegations and bring out the truth.
Currently, there are two major ongoing cases against Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren:
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is investigating Soren for alleged illegal mining in the state.
The ED has accused Soren of holding an “office of profit” while he was the Chief Minister, which is illegal under the Indian Constitution.
The ED has also seized assets worth crores of rupees from Soren and his associates in connection with this case.
