EAM Jaishankar Meets With Candian FM Melanie Joly, US Secy Antony Blinken

Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly at the Munich Security Conference to discuss the relationship between India and Canada.

Jaishankar shared details of their meeting on social media, mentioning their discussions on the current state of their relationship. They talked about global issues but mainly focused on their bilateral ties.

The relationship between India and Canada has been tense since Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused India of being involved in the assassination of a Khalistan terrorist.

Canada claimed to have evidence linking India to the killing, but couldn’t prove to date. India had already denied these allegations. 

The two countries have been experiencing strained relations, with India asking Canada to provide proof to support their claims. The meeting between Jaishankar and Joly aimed to address these issues and improve the relationship between the two nations.

The Munich Security Conference 2024 is a meeting where leaders from different countries discuss international security policies. 

During this conference, Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with various counterparts, including US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. 

They talked about the situation in West Asia, Ukraine, and the Indo-Pacific region. They also discussed the need for freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and the importance of maritime security in that area.

The meeting between Jaishankar and Blinken highlighted the strong ties between the US and India and their cooperation on various important issues like economic stability, peace in the Middle East, democracy, human rights, climate change, and upholding the international order based on rules.

Apart from Blinken, Jaishankar also had discussions with other leaders like his German, Argentine, Greek, and Canadian counterparts. They talked about bilateral relations and global issues affecting their countries.

The Munich Security Conference is often referred to as the ‘Davos of Defence’ and is chaired by the German Ambassador to the United States, Christoph Huesgen.

The conference provided a platform for constructive discussions on international security policies, highlighting the importance of diplomacy and collaboration in addressing global challenges.
