EAM Jaishankar Explains Why India Stands Strong Against Terrorism

India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar explained India’s foreign policy, including its stance on terrorism and its relationship with other countries.

India takes a strong position on terrorism because it has been a big victim itself. Many terrorist attacks have happened in India, affecting innocent lives and our national security.

S. Jaishankar said that India needs to be consistent in how it views terrorism, not just when it impacts us, but also when it affects other countries.

If India only focuses on terrorism when it is the victim, then its position would lack credibility on the global stage. That’s why India believes it’s important to consider terrorism as a serious issue no matter it happens in the US, Israel, Canada, or any other country.

S. Jaishankar also talked about India’s stance on the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. India decided to abstain from a United Nations resolution that called for a truce in Israel.

The reason for this was that the resolution did not condemn the Hamas terrorist group for its role in the attacks.

By abstaining, India showed that it will not support resolutions that don’t fully address the complexity of the issue, including naming groups that engage in terrorist activities.

Another significant point made was about India’s right to buy oil from Russia. Jaishankar gave the example of Ukraine to explain that right judgments in foreign affairs are as critical as good governance at home.

When some European countries told India not to buy oil from Russia, India held its ground. The reason is simple: bowing to the pressure would have led to a spike in the price of oil, leading to higher inflation, and affecting common people.

Jaishankar said that a good government stands up for its people, and this was an example of that. In fact, he revealed that the same European countries advising India were themselves buying oil from Russia, to protect their own interests.
