Delhi -Former cricketer Rahul Dravid has been finally announced as the head coach of the men’s Indian cricket team and soon after it was made official, he was bombarded with questions about the changing dynamics of the team as well as the race for captaincy in shorter format.

When he was directly asked about who according to him would make a good captain for the shorter format, Dravid without any hesitation replied that he thinks Rohit Sharma will be India’s best bet for the position. Apart from Rohit, Dravid also named KL Rahul as the ideal candidate for the position.

Dravid has been one of the most desired candidates for the coaching position and after much delay, the cricketing great has agreed to coach the team and will be taking charge from the upcoming New Zealand series that starts from November 17.

With him in the picture, he will have to handle many changes in the team and one of the major ones being the change of a captain. Virat Kohli had earlier announced that he will be stepping down from the position post the ongoing T20 World Cup and it is now understood that the Board of Cricket Council of India is looking for a new ODI captain.

Rahul Dravid was till now heading National Cricket Academy and hence while giving his presentation, he stressed on the role of NCA in shaping the future of Indian cricket and how it should be well coordinated with the national team so that progress can be analysed in coming years.

As per a report in a leading daily, the head coach also spoke about ways to improve the bench strength of the Indian side and how by distribution methods, the workload of players can be balanced in coming days. Dravid was reportedly the only applicant for the position and as it was earlier reported, his appointment merely remained a formality after his meeting with BCCI secretary Jay Shah and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly post the conclusion of the Indian Premier League in the UAE.
