The resident doctors who have been boycotting work due to delays in the PG NEET counseling have now started their protest against the violence used against them by the Delhi police. On Monday, they stressed that they were “brutally thrashed, dragged, and detained” by the police force.
As per the local media reports, the doctors were marching towards the Supreme Court, and midway they were stopped by the Delhi police and just near the ITO in the afternoon. The protestors were detained and later on released by them claimed by the Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA).
The federation released a statement saying, “There will be a complete shutdown of all healthcare institutions today onwards. We strongly condemn this brutality and demand immediate release of our FORDA representatives and resident doctors.”
The police however stated that 12 of the doctors were detained and further taken to Rajinder Nagar Police Station. They were soon let go and contradicting the previous remark about violence, a senior police officer said no doctor was harmed or thrashed.
The officer also stressed that the police were trying to pacify the violence and the doctors since 9:30 a.m. but to no avail. They further added that the protestors were adamant on going to the apex court and the police were left with no choice but to detain them. Later on, General Secretary of FORDA, Dr. Kulsaurabh confirmed that 1,000 resident doctors were seen walking towards Maulana Azad Medical College around 10 a.m. on Monday.
