Director ‘The Kashmir Files’ To Get Protection From CRPF

The movie that has stirred the core of the Indian society and that has brought forth quite a controversy, is now getting its director into trouble. Looking at the risk that Vivek Agnihotri might have landed himself in, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has granted him Y category security. Sources said the cover will be provided by the CRPF. Agnihotri will be the 118th individual to be protected under the CRPF.

The movie that presents the stark mistreatment and struggle of Kashmiri pandits, might stir the sentiments of factions in a negative way. A decision about the personal security of the director comes in the wake of continuing opposition that the film is receiving despite the PM himself keeping a balanced point of view over the piece of art. The movie presents events that led to the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley in the 90s.

While the Opposition has found the movie too violent, it is being actively pushed by the government with all BJP-ruled states either declaring the film tax-free or giving government employees special leave to watch the film.  Addressing a meeting of BJP MPs after the party returned to power in four states, Modi said it is not an issue about a film, but that of “bringing out the truth” and “presenting history in its correct perspective” before the country since this has been long “suppressed” by the “poori jamaat (entire group).

The movie stars some of the best and bold actors of Bollywood who have been known to have done controversial movies earlier as well. The cast comprises Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Seema Biswas, Mithun Chakraborty, to name a few. According to an official statement by the Home Ministry, “An assessment by the Intelligence Bureau has found that there is a threat to his life. Based on the inputs, Y category security has been provided to him across the country.”
