Dell Orders Global Sales Team Back to Office After Big Layoffs

This is a big shift for Dell Technologies, now imposing a change for the global sales team. From September 30, employees who can go to the company’s offices should report to work five days a week. This news has arrived at a time when Dell has already dismissed more than 12, 000 employees.

The tech company needs its sales team to cooperate and also to enhance its capability. An internal memo read; “Remote work should not be the new business as usual.”

Field workers will have customer as well as partner-facing roles and will also need to be at the office for a significant part of the day. This is more than the three days in the office they had to do before. Not all of the employees who will be unable to go to a Dell office will be required to work from home. Dell will provide further details of this soon.

Earlier in August there was a change of guard in Dell’s sales division. This also entailed sacking employees to make the company more efficient and to concentrate on artificial intelligence (AI). They are going to integrate the sales teams and create a new organizational structure for AI operations.

Dell is not the only tech company that has adopted work rules put in place during the COVID-19 pandemic. While some companies are fine with having both home and office work some desire more of the latter. For instance, Amazon intends to require its workers to come to the office, five days a week.

Dell has been struggling with its core business of selling computer systems. According to their latest money report from August 30, they have less income than last year. They generated $12.4 billion, which was 4 percent lower than the same period of the previous year and slightly lower than analysts estimated.

The report indicated a significant change in the computer sales volume of Dell. Business computer sales remained almost flat while home computer sales were down by 22 percent from last year.

Because of these money problems, Dell said on September 11 that they would attempt to spend less money. They said: “We will continue to control our costs and keep making modifications to our operations. We will also take measures to reduce our costs lower.”
