Delhi Lt Governor Asks CBI To Investigate AAP’s Mohalla Clinic Scams

Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, V K Saxena, has asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to look into a serious issue with the Aam Aadmi Mohalla Clinics (AAMC) in Delhi. 

These clinics are Arvind Kejriwal government-operated and are meant to provide medical help to people. But, there’s a big problem. It seems that there were fake lab tests and patients who don’t really exist, and still, money was paid to private labs.

Details of False Patient Registrations

The LG’s office found out that many tests were supposedly done on patients who weren’t real. They used fake or wrong mobile numbers to show these patients existed. 

For example, some numbers had all 0000000000, some were just blank, and others were clearly fake like 9999999999. This looks like it could involve a lot of money, possibly hundreds of crores, and it’s especially bad because it affects poor people.

Discovery of False Attendance and Risks to Patients

This issue came to light when some doctors and staff at certain Mohalla Clinics were caught marking their attendance falsely. They were using pre-recorded videos to pretend they were at the clinic. 

These clinics, like in Jaffar Kalan and Shikarpur, were giving medical advice and medicines even when the doctors weren’t there, which is very risky for patients.

The Delhi government had started offering 450 types of medical tests for free at these clinics. Two private companies were involved in conducting these tests. But now, with these findings, it’s clear that many of these tests might not have been real.

The LG has also recently requested a CBI probe into another issue of substandard medicines being supplied to government hospitals. So, there are multiple concerns about the quality of healthcare services being provided by the government.

Inquiry into Substandard Medicines

The situation is serious because Mohalla Clinics are supposed to help a lot of people, especially those who can’t easily get medical care. They’re very important for people living in slums or those from neighboring states to Delhi for work.

The LG’s request for a CBI investigation shows that this needs a thorough check to ensure that people get the safe and proper healthcare they need.
