Delhi Liquor Policy Case: ED Arrests 2 Businessmen Today

ED & CBI are continuously working on the Delhi Liquor Policy Case. ED has made so many raids. Today ED arrested 2 businessmen, one of them is a pharma company head.

According to official sources cited by news outlet PTI, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has detained two business executives with ties to the alcohol industry as part of its money laundering investigation into the now-discredited Delhi Excise Policy case.

They disclosed that Benoy Babu of Pernod Ricard and Sharath Reddy of Aurobindo Pharma had been detained by a federal agency in accordance with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The Enforcement Directorate has so far conducted numerous raids in the Delhi Excise Policy case. According to reporting from PTI, it detained Sameer Mahandru in September, the managing director of the liquor manufacturer Indospirit.

The bureau also conducted raids earlier this month at the residence of Manish Sisodia’s personal assistant, and later interrogated him at its Delhi office.

The money laundering case began with a CBI FIR in which Manish Sisodia was among the suspects. After registering the case, the CBI conducted a raid at the residences of the deputy chief minister and a few Delhi government officials.

The federal agency has also interrogated Devendra Sharma, Sisodia’s personal assistant, in this case as of last Saturday. After his home was searched, according to officials, he was transported to the ED office in central Delhi for interrogating.

After Delhi LG VK Saxena urged a CBI investigation into the suspected inconsistencies in the execution of Delhi’s Tax Policy 2021–2022, the excise system came under scrutiny. Eleven excise officials were also suspended by the LG.

Manish Sisodia, the deputy chief minister of Delhi, has been detained by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) after being listed as an accused party in the case.

The goal of the policy was to replace a sales-volume-based system with a license fee system for company owners in order to revive the city’s struggling liquor industry. 

It guaranteed classier stores without the dreaded metal grilles, providing clients a better shopping experience overall. 

A first for Delhi, the policy also included discounts and offers on the purchase of alcoholic beverages.
