Delhi Government’s fight against Covid-19 continues from SHIELD to 5T plan and increasing tests

On 1 May, The number of coronavirus patients in the national capital taking the total number to 35,043 cases and the death toll to 1,147. Delhi’s fight against Covid-19 has seen many highs and lows. Recently Delhi has upped its surveillance measures in containment zones, and screening of all people in these areas will be done thrice in 14 days. Since the lockdown, it has been applauded for increasing the number of testing.

With its share number of criticism, CM Arvind Kejriwal is continuing to do his best to control the spread of the virus. Delhi being the National Capital has a wide variety of people, populations, and urban phenomena. From providing shelter and food to the migrant workers to announcing the SHIELD plan in March to the 5T Plan in April, the Delhi Government is aiming to fight against Covid-19.

The 5T Plan – testing, tracing, treatment, teamwork, tracking, and monitoring is actively helping Delhi tract and fight the virus proactively. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal stated in a press conference recently that aggressive testing is the key to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Delhi, like other states, has been struggling for PPE and ventilators, however, the permission of plasma therapy by the ICMR and trial on few critical cases; it showed positive results in recouping them. Though the ICMR has stated that plasma therapy conducted on trial bases and not a definitive treatment for Covid-19 yet. On 1 April, the government decided to break up the containment zones into smaller, specific units.

The decision was taken after the government noticed that the number of Covid-19 cases was increasing in the containment zones. Currently, Delhi has 98 containment zones, and with these measures, the movement is restricted to hotspots zones.

Continuing to fight the cornoavirus, the Delhi Government has also issued an order on 1 May, instructing all hospitals and clinics in the National Capital to remain functional for non-coronavirus patients and acute patients too.

According to the statement, Institutions have to ensure that people needing essential critical services, like chemotherapy, dialysis, blood transfusion, and many more, will not be denied to the patient; those who will not comply with the State order will face strict action.
