Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal calls for an emergency meeting with his party officials and Health Minister Satyendar Jain to set up a strong action plan to battle the recent surge in covid cases in the National Capital.
In the meeting, matters like inoculation drive, regulation of containment zones, and maintaining the accessibility of beds in hospitals were reviewed.
An official statement stated that beds in 33 private hospitals have increased and 25% beds for ICUs, and 25 percent more for the general wards. There are currently 838 coronavirus assigned ICU beds in 33 private hospitals.
It has been seen that the rules and protocols given by the Delhi Government are not being obeyed at various public spots, and a few people have been showing carelessness concerning wearing face masks, the statement added.
Kejriwal announced that tougher actions will be taken against people who will not follow rules such as wearing face masks in public areas. A target of 80,000 tests per day has been set and the inoculation centers have been increased to 600. However, Kejriwal ruled out the state lockdown right now.
India witnessed the greatest daily surge in the coronavirus cases with 81,466 new infections and 469 deaths recorded in the past 24 hours, taking the count to 1.23 crore. The state of Maharashtra, Punjab, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, and Delhi continue to show a sharp rise in daily fresh cases.
As Delhi is experiencing a 53 percent rise in the number of coronavirus cases, the Delhi Government orders the closing of all schools in the National Capital, and no physical classes will be held for the 2021-22 academic year because of a persistent wave in the new infections till further orders.
However, the school students of 9 to 12 grade can be called to schools just for giving academic guidance keeping the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in mind, and after the consent of the guardians.
However, the Delhi Government was successful in containing the spread of SARS Cov-2 by making a stricter measure last year.
On Thursday, the third drive of immunization started amid a rise in cases that have again mounted over a recent couple of weeks. “In the third vaccination drive, individuals aged 45 or more are eligible for inoculation, regardless of their co-morbidities,” a senior administration official stated. The covid vaccination centers in private and government medical facilities will run from 9 am to 9 pm.
