Delhi CM’s plasma therapy initiative is proving beneficial for critical covid-19 patients

In Delhi, more than 700 Covid-19 patients have been successfully administered convalescent plasma therapy. This was possible because of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s initiative for setting up India’s first plasma bank in the capital. In a press conference, Delhi CM stated that due to plasma therapy the recovery of critically ill patients has increased.

In the Institute of Liver and Biliary Science at Vasant Kunj, the first plasma bank was set up. Plasma therapy has been very useful in the recuperation of the coronavirus patients in Delhi and more than 900 recovered covid-19 cases have come forth to donate plasma. 

As per a public statement of Delhi Chief Minister‘s office, the initiative to launch a plasma bank in the capital has proved to be exceptionally helpful and successful in the recovery of critical Covid-19 patients. 

Lok Nayak and Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital have also set up banks and they will soon provide plasma therapy to those admitted in other hospitals, beginning from Wednesday.

In the convalescent plasma therapy, the blood plasma collected from a recovered Covid-19 patient who has developed antibodies to fight the disease is used for the treatment.

On Tuesday, Kejriwal expressed that plasma therapy has helped in decreasing the death rate among Covid-19 patients until a proper vaccine is developed. He has been urging the recovered Covid-19 patients to donate plasma for saving more lives. According to Hindustan Times, Dr. SK Sarin, head of the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences, “currently, none of the researches has indicated mortality use of this therapy, but we have seen that it is coming useful in reducing the severity of the illness.
