Davis Cup: India And Pakistan To Clash In Tennis Match After 60 Years

The Indian Davis Cup team has gone to Pakistan for a tennis match for the first time in 60 years. This is a big event because India and Pakistan are long-time rivals, and they haven’t played in Pakistan since 1964.

The match is happening at the Islamabad Sports Complex on February 3 and 4. The Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi offered visas to the Indian team and their staff.

The team from India is strong, even though they don’t have their famous player Rohan Bopanna this time. Bopanna, who is 43, played his last Davis Cup match against Morocco.

The team now includes Yuki Bhambri, Ramkumar Ramanathan, N Sriram Balaji, Saketh Myneni, Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha, and Digvijay SD Prajwal Dev. Rohit Rajpal is leading the team as the non-playing captain, with Zeeshan Ali as the coach.

India has done well in the Davis Cup before, getting to the finals three times in 1966, 1974, and 1987. This time, they are facing Pakistan without their top player, Sumit Nagal. However, the team looks strong.

India and Pakistan have played against each other seven times before, and India has won every time.

The match will have five parts: four singles and one doubles. On the first day, Ramkumar Ramanathan will play against Pakistan’s Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi. Then, N Sriram Balaji will compete against Aqeel Khan.

The next day, Yuki Bhambri and Saketh Myneni will play in the doubles match. The last two singles matches will be between Ramanathan and Aqeel, and Qureshi and Balaji.

The Davis Cup is a big tennis event with 70 countries taking part. It’s like the World Cup for men’s tennis. In this group, other countries like Ireland, Norway, and Japan are also playing matches.
