D. Gukesh Becomes Youngest To Beat World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen

Indian teenager D. Gukesh made history in the current Aimchess Rapid online tournament by defeating World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen.

D. Gukesh (Donnarumma Gukesh), a teenager from India, made history in the current Aimchess Rapid online tournament by defeating Magnus Carlsen and becoming the youngest person to ever defeat the world champion.

In the ninth round, the 16-year-old D. Gukesh defeated Carlsen with white, ending the Norwegian’s term as world champion.

Gukesh became the most recent Indian teenager to triumph over Carlsen, the world chess champion since 2013. The world champion was defeated by 19-year-old compatriot Arjun Erigaisi a day earlier.

R Praggnanandhaa, a 16-year-old Indian youngster, has already defeated Carlsen twice this year. Gukesh, who is from India, defeated Carlsen at the age of 16 years, 4 months, and 20 days. When Praggnanandhaa beat the world No. 1, he was 16 years, 6 months, and 10 days old.

The Indian team of D Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi, and Vidit Santosh Gujrathi, however, was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Aimchess Rapid online chess tournament, putting an end to their effort.

Gukesh, who had defeated Magnus Carlsen, the world champion, in the preliminary round, lost to Richard Rapport 1.5-2.5 after taking the lead with a victory in the second match of the 4-matches tournament.

After the first game finished in a draw, the 16-year-old Indian seemed to have the upper hand when he claimed a 1.5-0.5 lead with a victory in 32 moves in the second match.

Carlsen proved his prowess by winning the following two games to move on to the last four rounds after pulling out a draw in game one from a very hopeless situation.

Jan-Krzystof Duda of Poland outplayed Gujrathi, who was easily defeated 0.5–2.5.

In the preliminary round, Gukesh and Erigaisi had placed second and fourth, respectively.

There are 16 players competing in the Aimchess Rapid tournament, which is a part of the Meltwater Champions tour and includes five players from India.
