Cyclone Dana Set to Hit Odisha, West Bengal: Over 1 Million Evacuated

The India Meteorological Department has issued heavy rainfall alerts for multiple states of India. A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal has led to a cyclone Dana. According to a source mint, 10 lakh people will be impacted by this cyclone.

Odisha, and West Bengal government, NDRF, Coastal guard and other rescue forces are on alert. Schools in West Bengal and Odisha is closed today because of alert by IMD.

According to the IMD depression over the Bay of Bengal intensified into a deep depression on Tuesday evening and is likely to become a severe cyclonic storm and cross the Odisha-West Bengal coasts in the early hours of October 25 with a wind speed of 100-110 mph gusting to 120 mph.

Odisha and West Bengal Gear Up for Cyclone Dana:

To rescure over 10 lakh people in bad weather is a challenge in front of officials of Odisha, they are preparing flood shelters, multipurpose cyclone shelters for people. According to the Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari Arrangements of food, drinks, etc are going on. 50 disaster response teams are on alert in Odisha.

In West Bengal around 14 disaster response teams are on alert.

High Alert Across Coastal Odisha and West Bengal:

14 districts in Odisha will be impacted by the cyclone. According to IMD in the list, they are- Angul, Puri, Nayagarh, Khordha, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Ganjam and Mayurbhanj.

In West Bengal, South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas, and Purba Medinipur, along with coastal areas and neighbouring districts like Paschim Medinipur, Bankura, Jhargram, and Hooghly will be impacted by the cyclone.

According to update by India Today till now, over 150 trains have been canceled in anticipation of the cyclone, affecting transportation across South Eastern Railway zones.

Both states are actively working to minimize the damage caused by the cyclone. Residents in these regions are advised to stay indoors, heed warnings from local authorities, and keep updated on further developments as Cyclone Dana approaches.
