Companies across sectors including aviation, healthcare, retail, and entertainment are facing staff shortages in India because of the Covid-19 restrictions. Health concerns of employees are causing shortages in several sectors.
Covid-19 cases are surging across the country. Many states are also suffering from the Omicron variant of Covid-19. The virus is not only affecting the health of workers but is also affecting businesses across the country.
The banking and financial sector is another area where stress could rise due to the partial closure of business activity. The health care sector is preparing more facilities to treat Omicron patients. However, there is a shortage of doctors in the country.
Experts claim that there will be no shortage among hospital staff due to infections because doctors expect fewer hospitalizations. Dr. Naresh Trehan, chairman of CII National Council on Healthcare, said, “Overall there is a good amount of preparation. We are preparing for more treatment through video calls.”
The small and medium-scale manufacturing industries are yet to recover from the effects of earlier lockdown. However, these industries have also been asked to come in shifts or the timings. These industries have been asked to reduce work and allow the workers to get back to their homes before the night curfew.
The covid-19 cases are also affecting the film industry. According to Mumbai-based movie business analyst Taran Adarsh, four prominent film release dates have been postponed because of the Omicron cases. Film industry stakeholders and theatre owners say they are facing difficulties due to Covid-19 restrictions. Earlier, they used to earn profit through film releases.
The aviation sector is brutally affected due to travel restrictions across the country. The rising number of Covid-19 cases and the various restrictions imposed by state governments in the last week of December led to a loss. According to The Indian Express, on Tuesday, daily domestic air passenger traffic fell below the 3-lakh mark for the first time since November.
