Coronavirus India: On Tuesday morning Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with all Chief Ministers whose states are seeing a massive surge in coronavirus cases, via video conferencing. Modi said, “No one can impose any view, and all have to work together.” PM Modi has cautioned states not to allow any laxity in following the Covid-19 regulations in states and aim to reduce positivity rate at least by 5%.
After crossing 91.77 lakh mark of caseload, India recorded 37,975 new cases of Covid-19 in a single day. Recoveries have crossed 86 lakh mark. Capital Delhi recorded 8600 new cases on November 10, being called the third wave. CM Arvind Kejriwal told PM Modi that the rise in third wave cases is due to various reasons including, air pollution. He reportedly asked for help regarding pollution caused due to stubble burning in surrounding states. CM further sought reservation of 1000 ICU beds additionally in Central government hospitals.
On Monday, Oxford-AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine has showed 70.4% efficacy during interim trial data from phase 3 clinical trials, showing promising results in protecting against the coronavirus. Dr. Cyrus Poonawalla, CEO of Serum Institute of India, Pune, which is testing and manufacturing the Oxford vaccine, has said that vaccine would be available in India soon enough.
Government sources have also told that one crore healthcare workers working at the frontline have been identified who will receive whatever vaccine against the coronavirus is available next year. The experts overlooking vaccine administration have relayed that database for the priority group to get vaccine is in final stage of completion.
A government source said, “We have received a substantial response from the states. Ninety two percent of all government hospitals across all states have provided data. Around 56% of private-sector hospitals have provided data. We are at an advanced stage.”
