15 opposition parties held the mega opposition meet in Patna ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
In a response to that Union Minister Smriti Irani made a statement acknowledging that the Congress party has finally admitted that they are not capable of defeating Prime Minister Narendra Modi alone.
Irani thanked the Congress for organizing the meeting, stating that it publicly demonstrates their inability to challenge Modi independently and their need for assistance.
Irani criticized the opposition leaders who had experienced the “murder of democracy” during the Emergency and were now uniting under the Congress’s leadership.
She found it ridiculous that these leaders were sending a message to the country that they cannot confront Modi single-handedly. Irani sarcastically expressed her gratitude to the Congress for making this fact public.
The Union minister further questioned whether the Congress’s actions during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, the Emergency, and the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) were indicative of their supposed love (Mohabbat ki dukaan) for the nation.
In response to the Aam Aadmi Party’s ultimatum to the Congress regarding support against the Delhi Ordinance, Irani accused parties that failed to unite for development of resorting to political blackmail.
She highlighted the disunity within the opposition, with one leader claiming ignorance about the meeting’s outcome, another adopting a “wait and see” approach, and yet another threatening to walk out if their demands were not addressed. Irani portrayed this situation as a reflection of the opposition’s lack of unity.
Irani also commented on the shift in power from political dynasties to the people and criticized opposition leaders for seeking support from the very people they had once imprisoned during the Emergency.

She questioned the opposition’s ability to build a democratic bridge when they couldn’t even construct a physical bridge.
Smriti Irani sarcastically thanked the Congress for making this admission public during the opposition’s gathering in Patna. She accused that Congress has finally admitted in the public that they are incapable of defeating Prime Minister Modi alone.
