The saffron party has made a clean sweep and the disappointment on the other side of the table is evident too. The tide didn’t turn and votes didn’t come through despite Priyanka Gandhi’s presence and charisma in the campaigning.
The chances of Congress in the Lok Sabha elections in 2024 therefore look bleak. Congress seems a lot out of its league as of now. There appears to be competition as also churning in opposition ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha polls and both AAP and Trinamool Congress are keen to be seen as the prime challengers of BJP, a role that Congress has been espousing so far.
But there are definitely more contenders now. Congress will hold a meeting of its working committee soon to analyse the election results. Upset over the results, Congress G-23 leaders, who had written to Sonia Gandhi seeking widespread reforms including elections at various levels, are slated to meet in the next 48 hours.
Party leader Shashi Tharoor, a member of G-23 expressed his disappointment through a tweet in which he said that “organisational leadership in a manner that will reignite those ideas and inspire the people.” “One thing is clear — Change is unavoidable if we need to succeed.”
BJP had a landslide victory in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, despite all controversies surrounding the farm laws and farmer deaths too. PM Modi’s BJP won elections in 4 out of 5 Indian states that went to polls last month. Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP emerged as the biggest challenger to the BJP. A 37-year-old record was broken in Uttar Pradesh and all traditional analysis flopped. Congress needs a new strategy soon, lest is has just too much competition for the Gandhi’s to beat under the guise of their leadership lineage.
