In the lead-up to the Lok Sabha polls, the Congress party has made a significant decision regarding Supriya Shrinate’s candidacy. This move comes amidst a controversy sparked by her comments against actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut, a BJP candidate. Let’s delve into the details of this development and its implications.
Supriya Shrinate, a Congress leader who previously contested the Maharajganj seat in Uttar Pradesh during the 2019 elections, has been dropped as a candidate for the upcoming polls. The decision stems from a social media post where Shrinate allegedly made offensive remarks about Kangana Ranaut, who is contesting from the BJP’s Mandi constituency.
Shrinate’s now-deleted Instagram post featured a derogatory comment directed at Kangana Ranaut, questioning the situation in Mandi and implying monetary transactions. Although Shrinate later clarified that her account was misused by a parody profile, the Election Commission issued a show-cause notice regarding the matter.
The Election Commission deemed Shrinate’s comments as violative of the Model Code of Conduct, emphasizing the need for political parties to uphold dignity during campaigns. Consequently, the Commission requested a response from Shrinate by March 29, 2024, regarding her remarks.
In response to Shrinate’s remarks, Kangana Ranaut took to social media to address the issue directly. She highlighted her diverse portrayals of women throughout her acting career, underscoring the need for respect and professionalism in public discourse.

Amidst the controversy, the Congress party released its eighth list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections, omitting Supriya Shrinate’s name from the lineup. Instead, Virendra Chaudhary has been named as the Congress candidate for the Maharajganj seat.
The decision to deny Supriya Shrinate a ticket for the Lok Sabha polls underscores the importance of maintaining decorum and integrity in political discourse. As the election season progresses, it remains imperative for all stakeholders to uphold ethical standards and focus on issues of public interest.
